1 Overview

This instrument serves as a primary device for measuring precipitation. Its performance complies with the relevant requirements of the national standard GB/T11832-2002 "Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge" and the national standard GB/T11831-2002 "Telemetry Rain Gauge for Hydrological Monitoring and Reporting Devices".

The core component of this instrument, the tipping bucket, adopts a three-dimensional streamlined design, ensuring smoother water tipping. It also features self-cleaning of dust and is easy to clean.

2 Structure and Features

As shown in Figure 1, this instrument consists of a rain receiver 1, filter screen 2, water diversion funnel 3, tipping bucket support 4, tipping bucket 5, tipping bucket bushing 6, inclination adjustment device 7, leveling adjustment device 8, permanent magnet 9, reed switch 10, signal output terminal 11, drainage funnel 12, base 13, stainless steel cylinder body 14, and base support foot 15, among others. The tipping bucket support 4 is equipped with a tipping bucket bushing 6, a circular spirit level, a reed switch bracket, and a signal output terminal.

Unlike other tipping bucket rain gauges, the tipping bucket bushing of this instrument features an integrated rotary positioning structure. The tipping bucket 5 is installed via the tipping bucket shaft in the jewel bearings of the two bushings, making installation and removal of the tipping bucket more convenient. There is no need to readjust the distance between the two bushings, facilitating on-site installation.

The tipping bucket of this instrument is designed with a three-dimensional streamlined shape and features a drooping arc-shaped diversion tip. It is aesthetically pleasing, offers better water tipping performance, and is easy to clean and maintain.

The water diversion funnel of this instrument is tightly fitted to the tipping bucket support and generally does not need to be removed.

The water channel components, including the water diversion funnel, tipping bucket, and drainage funnel, are made of imported high-quality transparent materials, allowing for clear observation of the instrument's dynamic working process.

The tipping bucket is equipped with two permanent magnets, and the reed switch bracket is equipped with two reed switches. The magnets and reed switches are pre-adjusted to an appropriate coupling distance during factory assembly, ensuring a definite proportional relationship between the instrument's output signal and the number of bucket tips. One of the two output signals is used for on-site counting and measurement, while the other is used for telemetry reporting. When connecting this instrument to a telemetry terminal, a matching interface circuit should be provided to prevent counting and reporting errors caused by reed switch chatter or bucket bounce-back.

During factory assembly, the tipping bucket inclination adjustment screw is locked at the base inclination point, and the inclination screw is sealed with red paint. During on-site installation, users only need to install the tipping bucket into the two bushings on the tipping bucket support according to the relevant requirements in this manual, level the tipping bucket support so that the spirit level bubble is centered, and the instrument is ready for use. On-site adjustment of the tipping bucket inclination is not required.
